“That’s why this is all the more shocking. You’re too informed, too aware to just have blindly followed Trump. And my only conclusion is that the dark, ugly bigotry of this man was dismissed by you, tolerated by you. That’s unacceptable. You allowed for the legitimacy of white supremacists and a brutal misogyny we have never seen at this level of politics. Any conversation we would have would devolve into my saying things that would surely hurt you far more than simply breaking off or severely diminishing communications.”
I had a conversation recently that lead to someone’s feelings being hurt. It wasn’t my intention and I apologized for the misunderstanding.
But I am beginning to become frustrated that the phrasing of my words is seen as a personal attack to a greater degree than their discriminatory actions.
Words versus Actions.
Ponder that for a second.
And then remember that if you voted for Trump, you chose to act AGAINST the liberties and freedoms of Others. You decided to build a divisive Wall, not a connecting Bridge, when you casted your ballot. You voted for the systematic stripping of Others rights, acting as if by pursuing their own version of consensual Love, Religion, or Happiness, they infringed on yours. You chose Lies to support your narrative. You allowed a narcissistic, sexist, misogynistic, unqualified asshole to become the President of the United States.
And then you told me that I should shut up about it and move the F on.
And not to question anything but to just drop it.
I won’t drop it.
Your actions have caused a reaction.
And there are and will be consequences.
I don’t need to agree with everything that you do and vice versa. But to know that you are so selfish that you would choose your desires or your own ignorance over the rights of other people to be happy, over their rights to be safe, or be protected, or to not be sexually harassed or practice their religion freely, I don’t know what to do with that.
I don’t know how to reconcile that you simply just don’t care about anyone but yourself.
I don’t know how to reconcile that you think showing up to vote is all there is. That now that the election is over, that people should go back to talking about other things.
That’s privilege (and ignorance) talking.
Some people aren’t safe to go back to their life. Your decision is threatening their way of life.
How do you not see that?
And if you see it, why is that OK with you?
